Vector TD hits Europe PlayStation Store!

Our first foray into the PSP gaming space, Vector TD Minis, launched last week. The EU PlayStation blog was gracious enough to let us write a post on the game’s release (by the way, you can download the game to your PS3 and play it on your home console as well as on-the-go). Here are what some commenters had to say:

“I too am guilty of spending a fair few hours playing this game when I should have been working on my dissertation while working on my degree. Needless to say, I’d already bought the game before this blog post. Great fun :p”

“Bought it yesterday and it’s brilliant. Admittedly I’m a bit Tower Defence fan anyway, but the fact that this is simplified down to the purest form is great for quick games on the move.”

“Yeah, seriously, this is a brilliant game, and an absolute steal at £2.50. Better than Fieldrunners? Maybe…”

A few other European gaming blogs also picked up the news — PlayStation-centric site The Sixth Axis gave it a 9/10 and said:

But what starts as a plain screen of dull looking blocks soon decends into a complex series of interlinking power ups and pulsing Vectroids as your nerves begin to crumble

Handheld/mobile gaming blog PocketGamer also covered the release:

At first glance it look like quite a basic tower defence game, but don’t let the straight lines fool you – this is a surprisingly intense and strategic take on usual gameplay, requiring you to make some fast and accurate decision in upgrading your towers before the invading Vectoids fly by.

And lest we forget the Germans, PSPSource.de also posted what (we think) is a pretty positive review of the game as well, giving it an 8.5/10.

Have you played the Vector TD Minis yet? Let us know what you think! The North America and Asia PlayStation stores will be getting the game soon as well.

Vector TD iPhone Release/Review Roundup!

Thanks to bloggers and fans around the web for spreading the word about Vector TD iPhone! The response to our game has been overwhelmingly positive. If you haven’t checked it out yet, try out the lite version of Vector TD iPhone — it includes one map (out of eight maps in the full game) and all the towers/upgrades.

Pocket Gamer writes:

Vector TD is a simple, but surprisingly deep, tower defence game that borrows casually from retro-themed games like Geometry Wars, and enjoys a stylish air of Tron as you attempt to gun down the legions of two-by-two enemies streaming through the grid-work levels.

Jay Is Games featured the game in their Mobile Monday roundup, saying, “This one plays like a charm on the touch screen.”

The guys at AppCast talked about Vector TD on their weekly show (and also recommended Electric Box for new iPod Touch owners!)

And last but not least, we found a bunch of TouchArcade forum posters who praised it as well!

“If you still have a TD itch that needs to be scratched, you can’t possibly go wrong with this one.”
“I would say its good value compared to other good TDs on the iPhone, this is my favorite on the platform so far.”
“Much harder than the flash version, which is a good thing :)

So what are you waiting for? Download Vector TD for the iPhone now!

Candystand Downloadable Games FAQ

Robin Yang on November 23, 2009 at 6:10 pm | Add a Comment

We just launched our downloadable games service on Candystand.com, where you’ll be able to try and buy hundreds of quality PC games. Here are a few things you should know about Candystand.com’s Downloadable Games.

All Candystand games you have been playing are still free!
There will be no changes made to existing games you play on Candystand. Everything you can play on your browser will still be free. Downloadable games are yours to purchase and download to your PC (playable even when you’re not connected to the internet) and are separate from Candystand games you already know and love. Downloadable games don’t have tickets or trophies, and high scores will not show up on your profile.

Some downloadable games have free demos you can play online
Many of the games you can purchase have free online versions that you can try out. You won’t be able to earn tickets or trophies for these games, however.

To purchase and download games, you’ll need to register a new Candystand Downloadable Games account
This is not the same as the CS account you might regularly login with. You’ll need to create a brand-new account (through our partner, Trymedia) that you can use to purchase and download games. Unfortunately, we can’t merge the two logins (we wish you could, though!)

If you buy a lot of games, you should register for GamePass
GamePass is a monthly subscription ($6.99 a month) that credits you with one free full downloadable game every month for as long as you subscribe. You’ll also get a discount of $5 off for every other game you buy after your free one. Note: the credit doesn’t apply to all games — you can click on the GamePass Games tab OR look for the ‘Get It Free’ button on a game page to find eligible games.

Once you purchase a game, you can play it for as long as you want on your PC
Even if you cancel your GamePass subscription, you’ll still be able to play the copy on your computer.

Download Insurance is optional
When you add a game to your shopping cart, you’ll have the option of also purchasing ‘Download Insurance,’ which keeps a copy of your game in your account should you need to re-download it (in case of computer theft, hard drive wipe, deletion, etc). Download Insurance is good for up to eighteen months from your purchase date.

Video: Vector TD on the iPhone

Robin Yang on November 17, 2009 at 3:38 pm | Add a Comment

As previously announced, we’re bringing one of our most popular tower defense games to the iPhone and PSP! Original Vector TD designer David Scott got his hands on a preview build of the game on his iPhone — check out the video below! We’re still working on tweaks to both iPhone and PSP versions — expect both to hit just after the holiday season.

Tips and Tricks: Football Superstars

Robin Yang on November 16, 2009 at 1:58 pm | Add a Comment

Brand new virtual sports simulator Football Superstars just launched on Candystand! Here are some tips and tricks to help you kickoff the game.
6
It’s football as in futbol/soccer, not pigskin American football.
The imagery clearly shows which football the game is talking about, but it took us a second to realize it (we’re sure you guys are smarter about this stuff, but it couldn’t hurt to say it anyways).

You’ll need to create a separate login for Football Superstars.
Unfortunately, you won’t be able to use your Candystand/Facebook Connect login to play the game. Luckily you can sign up for an account directly on the Candystand game page. Registration is required in order to download and play the game.

12Football Superstars is playable from your desktop.
You’ll need to downlad an application (it’s safe, we promise!) onto your comptuer in order to play the game. It happens to be a pretty big file too — took us about 20 min on a fairly fast connection to complete the download.

The game doesn’t cost anything to play.
The full Football Superstars experience is available for free, but if you want to purchase more expensive items sooner instead of waiting to earn in-game money, you can purchase Bonds or FS Dollars using a credit card or PayPal. There’s also a subscription available that offers a few extra perks (but nothing that will prevent you from actually playing the game if you don’t have it).

Have other questions? Check out the FAQ and Quickstart Guide (linked on the left-side navigation) for more info.

Electric Box on iPhone Getting Five Free New Levels!

Robin Yang on November 3, 2009 at 8:45 pm | Add a Comment

As they say, you can never have enough of a good thing! And in the case of iPhone/iPod Touch owners, the good thing comes in the form of a brand-new level pack for our popular App Store game, Electric Box! The downloadable game came with 50 levels originally, which we updated in September to include ten more levels.

We’re happy to announce that we’ve just submitted an update for Electric Box that will add five new levels to the game, bringing the grand total to **65** brainbending physics puzzles in one sweet game. Did we mention that this update is free to all paid owners of the game?

You can head over to our Facebook fan page to check out a sneak peek of all five new levels. No spoilers, though! We’re only showing you the puzzle, not the solution or the items you’ll use on each level. ;D

The update is currently undergoing review by Apple, and we’re hoping that it will be available by the end of the week. If you’ve already bought a copy of Electric Box, the update will show up in the ‘Applications’ section of your iTunes Library when it is released.

If you haven’t bought a copy… what exactly are you waiting for? There’s a free demo version with 10 levels if you’re risk-averse, and we bet you’ll be jonesing for more when those are done.

Don’t have an iPhone or iPod Touch? You can play Electric Box right on Candystand.com! Additional user-generated levels are available, too.

Vector TD on PSP: It’s Coming!

Robin Yang on November 2, 2009 at 8:47 pm | Add a Comment

This is the PSP Mini game we’ve been hyping for the last few weeks — popular Candystand tower defense game Vector TD is coming to the PSP! We currently have a build of the game running on a devkit PlayStation Portable in the office, and it’s looking really sweet. We’ll post more screens and video in the coming weeks before the game releases as a PSP Mini on the PlayStation Network (we’re hoping to have it done by the holidays) — stay tuned!
